Greg Stanfield gave it his best shot, but Allen Johnson still prevailed Sunday in their first-round Pro Stock race in the Arizona Nationals at Phoenix International Raceway in Chandler.
It was a close race throughout the 1,320 feet, but it was Johnson who would advance with a winning 6.653-second, 209.29-mph lap to Stanfield’s 6.661 at 207.88.
“I thought we did a good job,” said Eddie Guarnaccia, crew chief of the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks Pro Stock GXP. “We just didn’t have much racing luck. I thought we had a good race-day combination, so we’ll just focus on what we must do to run better in Las Vegas.”
The Big O Tires Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is schedule Oct. 14-16.
