ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. – Determined to squeeze out a little more horsepower before this weekend’s NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Greg Stanfield spent most of the past 10 days working on the power plants he builds for the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks Pro Stock GXP he also drives.

“We want to do better than we did at the last race,” Stanfield said. “The motor looks good, but you never know how well it is going to run until it gets on the track.”

“We have been running really well, but we haven’t been able to get to the winner’s circle yet this year,” added crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia. “We have a good combination and we know we’re going in the right direction.”

Stanfield has been a finalist three times this season, including the last stop at Topeka. He crossed the finish line seven-thousandths of a second after the winner. Stanfield is third in Full Throttle points with 513, 65 behind leader Jason Line.

“We want to start winning . . . and soon,” added Guarnaccia. “Winning at Englishtown would be big because that is a hometown race for us.”

Nitro Fish owner Kenny Koretsky and Guarnaccia are from nearby Pennsylvania. They have been racing at Englishtown for more than 30 years.

Other Nitro Fish drivers competing in the SuperNationals include reigning Pro Stock Motorcycle champion LE Tonglet and his brother GT, Tony Pedregon in a Chevrolet Funny Car, Kyle Koretsky in a Super Comp dragster and Michael Iacono in a 1987 Super Stock Camaro.

“We have a lot going on this weekend,” Koretsky said. “LE is coming off a great win at Topeka a few weeks ago and the Pro Stock car has been running well. We are going to have a lot of people in the hospitality area all weekend.”
