Tire shake Friday forced Greg Stanfield to abort his second qualifying run for Sunday’s Auto Club Finals at Pomona, Calif.
The Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks Pro Stock GXP eventually coasted to the finish line in 14 seconds. His 6.578-second quarter-mile time from Thursday left him 11th.
“The tires shook because we were too aggressive on the tune-up,” said crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia. “When we have a fresh engine like this one, it usually runs better the second time. We made a couple of changes and they helped the performance on one part of the track and hurt it on the other half.
The last two qualifying runs are scheduled on Saturday
