The first qualifying run for Greg Stanfield and the Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks Pro Stock GXP Thursday went as planned at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona.
The car responded when Stanfield mashed the throttle and traveled the quarter-mile in 6.575 seconds at 209.75 mph, good enough for the provisional No. 10 starting position.
“That was the first run on our reworked motor, and we were playing it safe everywhere to make sure we didn’t hurt anything,” said crew chief Eddie Guarnaccia. “We will be more aggressive on Friday.”
“We are going in the right direction,” added Stanfield. “It should run better the next time.”
Friday’s second session begins at noon.
