Stanfield goes out early at Las Vegas (1 Viewer)

Greg Stanfield did the best he could in Sunday’s opening Pro Stock round of the Big O Tires NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but suffered the same result as many visitors to the city – he didn’t leave a winner.

Matched against Allen Johnson in the first round for the second consecutive Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event, Stanfield’s Nitro Fish/Coffman Tank Trucks GXP had a .013-second reaction time. Johnson, however, wasn’t far behind (.021). He passed Stanfield en route to a 6.648-second, 207.56-mph win to Stanfield’s 6.699 at 206.76 mph.

Johnson, meanwhile, went to the finals and was runner-up.

The Auto Club of California NHRA Nationals at Pomona, Calif., Nov. 10-13, is the final 2011 Countdown to the Championship race.
