Question around the track today is whether NHRA will race here next year. First time I can recall in a while they're not taking renewals this weekend. Have not heard anything from credible sources but it does seem odd.
 
Yup. I also really am enjoying the energy I’m seeing from the fans, and it appears to be infectious. The little sideshow the announcers are putting on, you can tell they are excited too. Even though we only have 10 TF cars, this track is well supported and well attended by the fans. AND it’s NorCal!

Reply to Brian Bianco, Sonoma is supposed to be on the calendar for 2026 as part of the 75 year celebration.

Well, that's not good. They did say the track isn't used much anymore and needed some runs to get the rubber ready for fuel cars, but the first session was really good.
 
Yes, this was a very good and enthusiastic Friday night crowd. That was real good to see. There were many, many RV's parked all over the place for fans to spend the whole weekend. And lot's of NHRA, American, and Trump flags flying amongst the RV crowd.

I was also pleasantly surprised at how good both sessions were for the fuel cars, especially since so far this year (see last week at Seattle) the fuel cars have been smoking the tires waaaay too much. As it almost always is at Sonoma, as soon as the sun went down, here came the clouds and the wind. It was chilly for the 2nd session, and though some fuel cars rattled the tires, many of them got down the track, even at 79 to 80 degrees track temp. I thought the 2nd session would be mostly a wash due to being too cool, but that wasn't the case.

A couple of notes.....

Despite the stellar conditions and Brittany's ballbuster pass, nobody is really knocking it out of the park. 10 fuelers entered, August made one tire smoker but didn't show for Q2 and 3. Maybe he just decided to take the qualifier money and call it a day. The funnies are doing fair; 3.86 is low. PS, 2 or 3 high 6.40s at 210-211, par for the course in good conditions. Erica Enders? Whazzup? Q2, massive shake at the hit A-GAIN. Q3, massive shake at the hit A-GAIN. Her reaction times for the 3 rounds were .098, .060 and .080. Come on, girl...get it together.....come on, Team Elite....do something about that heap Enders is trying to drive. That thing has been plagued with that problem for months.

PSM had a 6.70/202 pass, good but not otherworldly considering the 358' DA. And only 9 bikes.
 
Good to hear Brian and Tony last night instead of the screamers, although Lohnes can get up on the tire as well sometimes. Looks like NHRA took something from IHRA with interviews in the staging lanes and I enjoyed that.
I agree. I thought the announcer team did a good job over all, especially during some of the usual down time for dragging the track, etc.
 
Anybody just see the Safety Safari guys pull out in front of Buddy Hull after he blew it up, couldn’t see anything, and had no brakes or chutes? Just barely missed him. That could’ve been disastrous.

Probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen.
 
Buddy Hull just had a nasty explosion again and the body was up and blocked his view completely and he had no chutes and the safety safari truck pulled out right in front of him, he barely missed it. Hope he is ok.

You tree'd me by 15 seconds, that ranks up there for stupid stuff. That was close to being ugly.
