I came across an interesting quote today that reminded me how concerns we face today may not be new problems at all?

"It appears we have appointed our worst generals to command forces, and our most gifted and brilliant to edit newspapers! In fact, I discovered by reading newspapers that these editor/geniuses plainly saw all my strategic defects from the start, yet failed to inform me until it was too late.

Accordingly, I'm readily willing to yield my command to these obviously superior intellects, and I'll, in turn, do my best for the Cause by writing editorials - after the fact."

Robert E. Lee, 1863

Sounds all too familiar, huh?

All men in my family (on my father's side) have the middle name of Lee (including me) to honor General Lee. He is my great, great, great, great Uncle. We have provenance from a Virginia geneological society and I tried to use said provenance to apply to West Point (RE Lee was one of the most decorated officers ever to graduate from the academy) as a "legacy" candidate when I was in high school. I never heard back from the academy but you can't blame a kid for trying.

An older neighbor of mine (98 yeards young) made the comment to me that "sometimes we have to make changes for things to remain the same"....
I walked away dumbfounded and thought about it for a few...he was right...

Did'nt mean to steer the thread...

And this reminds me of what I consider to be a great quote.

“You remember when we started this thing, how you said you’d never tell me how to run a sanctioning body and I, in turn, promised that I’d never get into the cigarette business? Well, I still haven’t made my first cigarette yet.”

Talk about thread derailment, I saw one on a wall of a truckstop recently that I probably knew as a kid but forgot. "Cut your wood once. Warm yourself twice." Abe Lincoln

That's just great, I printed it out and pasted it next to the American flag on the wall.
