NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Pro Stock Motorcycle points leader Matt Smith is looking to not only keep his momentum going at this weekend’s Mopar Mile-High Nationals in Denver, Colorado, but his teammate, Chris Rivas’ as well.
Running strong last time out, Smith went on to claim the runner-up position in his fifth final of the year and Rivas lost in the second round to Angelle Sampey due to a mechanical error.
However, with Bandimere Speedway being so much different than every other race track on tour, Smith and Rivas are a little hesitant as far as their setup goes this weekend. They both know they will have to have their Torco Race Fuels Buells on their A-game at the tricky track.
With Smith closing in on his spot in the top-eight, Rivas is looking to achieve his spot in the chase by stepping things up a bit and going some rounds at Denver.
“Denver is definitely a crew chief’s race,” said Smith. “The altitude is so much different up there and with me tuning both bikes I am going to have my hands full. I have never really run well at Bandimere, so I am hoping to change all that this weekend.”
“We are real close to the top-eight cut-off,” said Rivas. “We only have four more races until the chase. We have been running well here lately and we just need to keep gaining ground so that we can stay up there in the points. Evan and Matt have given me a great bike and I hope to capitalize on that real soon.”
Smith is your points leader by 79 points over Angelle Sampey and Rivas is in the seventh position, only two rounds out of the top-five. Both are looking to solidify their spots this weekend at the Mile-High Speedway.
