Matt Smith and Chris Rivas Are Looking to Stay Alive in Brainerd

Coming off two wins in a row, your NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle POWERade point’s leader, Matt Smith is once again ready to Rock and Roll at this weekend’s Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.

While Smith has been red-hot all year long, especially with his recent winning streak over the last two races, his Torco teammate Chris Rivas has been striving to stay in the crucial top-eight. Last time out in Sonoma, Rivas was bumped out of the top-eight for the first time this year; and now has only two races before the cutoff in order to gain back the ground that he has lost.

“We have been running well all season,” said POWERade point’s leader, Matt Smith. “We have however struggled somewhat with Chris’s bike, because we haven’t been able to push it much since we only had one motor. We now however, do have a second motor for his bike so our goal right now is to get Chris back in the top-eight. We will do whatever it takes from here on out.”

“I am excited and anxious about these next two races,” said Rivas. “We now have the equipment to be able to push the limit somewhat and hopefully that will be enough to get us back up in the top-eight. It is crunch time and I am more than ready to get the ball rolling. Evan and Matt have given me what I need and it’s time to get it done.”

Ready they will have to be; with two back-to-back races to go before the Countdown begins there is only a mere two rounds of racing separating the seventh through eleventh place riders in the PSM points. With Smith leading the way and Rivas in the ninth position fighting for his spot in the top-eight, these Torco teammates will be major contenders to watch out for this weekend in Brainerd.
