Drag slicks will be sizzling at Eastern Creek this weekend (February 16-17) when the Western Sydney International Dragway hosts one the countries largest Drag Racing events, the Summernationals, featuring all of Australia ’s top racers.
One of the biggest names in the sport and crowd favourite Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens will have his hands full at the event as he not only contends with racing in three professional brackets himself, the only person to do so in the world, but also calls the shots for the rest of his Brett Stevens Racing team which has of an amazing seven Group 1 race vehicles entered.
With an imposing presence at the track, the team pits will include two Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Doorslammers (Brett Stevens and Kath Stevens), two Jack Daniel’s Racing Top Bikes (Brett Stevens and Troy McLean), the Kitten Car Care Products Funny Car (Brett Stevens), the Glenfords Racing Top Doorslammer (Steve Packman) and the S&S powered Pro Stock Buell (Dion Prowse).
Adding to this formidable line up will also be Drag bike ace Pete Cochrane, who will be riding the team’s new prototype Brett Stevens Racing/S&S 124ci street bike in Modified Bike.
“Over the Christmas/New Year period all of the team’s vehicles had an overhaul to make sure they were in top condition coming into the back half of the Championship,” Stevens said.
“As well as this we have had the Jack Daniel’s and Glenfords Doorslammers out down the track for some testing and are confident that we have a combination for the Falcons that will be towards the top of what will be one of the toughest fields in the brackets history.”
“In the Kitten Funny Car we are currently sitting second in the Top Alcohol Championship and know we have the speed to win, so there will be a huge focus from the team to make sure we can consistently run the numbers to give me a shot at the Title.”
“This is a similar situation with our Jack Daniel’s Racing Nitro Harley’s which are just behind the series leader. We have run 6.4 seconds on these bikes now and have some plans to get them to go even faster.”
The Glenfords Racing driver and Brett Stevens Racing team Crew Chief Steve Packman is also entering the event very positive about the new found Top Doorslammer setups.
“With some new parts and innovations on the cars this season they have been making a lot more power and we have had a couple issues with getting this extra power to the race track, tuning 3000 horsepower can be very frustrating at times,” Packman said.
“But after some solid testing with some new ideas we think we have come up with a combination that looks like it is on the money.”
“I can’t wait to get out there and put some good times on the board, every event I have competed in this season I have set a new PB and I am confident of doing this again at the Summernationals and maybe even shaking up the field.”
Taking the Pro Stock Motorcycle bracket by storm in the 2006-2007 Championship season, team rider Dion Prowse is equally as excited about hitting the track in Sydney aboard his S&S powered Pro Stock Buell.
“Know one expected me to be leading the Pro Stock Bike Championship with three wins out of three events in the very first season for both myself and the bike,” Prowse said.
“I’d love to keep this form going for the team and get a fourth win in Sydney but it is going to be tough, the other competitors are very hungry to beat now.”
“My main goal though at the moment it to get the National Championship and with the position I'm in at the moment, with some good results there is a chance I can wrap it up this weekend.”
With vital National Championship points on the line, this ultimate summer rev head party is sure to excite as Australia’s fastest cars and motorcycles battle it out over the quarter mile over two action packed days.
The Brett Stevens Racing team will also be making a special guest appearance at the Eastern Creek Tavern on Thursday, February 15 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm to meet the fans and sign autographs.
