Jason Line and the Summit Racing team entered the first day of qualifying at the Mopar Mile-High Nationals in Denver, Colo. looking to continue their string of strong qualifying performances, a goal complicated by the challenging conditions at Bandimere Speedway, where the altitude slows the “factory hot rods” by over ten miles per hour. In each session the Mooresville, N.C. resident made a representative run, highlighted by his 7.037-second, 195.53 mph pass in the evening session. Sitting sixth midway through qualifying, Line will look to use his final two attempts to better his standing for race day.
“We certainly didn’t run the way we expected to today,” said Line. “Although we’re never happy unless our Summit Racing Pontiac is at the top of the page, I’m more upset by how we ran compared to the cars that are there at the moment. The good news is that we have a solid starting spot, and two more attempts remaining on Saturday during which we can turn things around.
“I know we’re capable of running a lot better than we did today and it’s up to us to figure out how to do it. We have a lot of work ahead of us before we run, which may involve making wholesale changes, which is certainly not a problem – we just need to get it done.”
