Should the break out rules be eliminated.

To me it is a punishment for out performing the other car. The first to the strip is the winner period.

All you are going to find out then is whose wallet can go faster. Index racing is the great equalizer between the haves and the have nots....in that the name of the game isn't having a bigger budget, it's knowing and driving your car better than your competitor knows and drives theirs.

Well, I believe that the "cheapest" way to do that is to go race Comp....and it takes 6 figures at the least to be competitive there. What do you race?

I don't mind breakouts. If breakouts didn't exist you would have any Joe Schmoe buying $100,000 motors to try and go .10 seconds faster.

What I do mind is throttle stops. But that's another topic for another day.

Racing is not something that is inexpensive. Now back in 72 I brought a LS7 454/465 for $1000, got a 4500 dominator manifold for $200, 1050 Holley Dominator for $225, heads ported and polished for $400, balanced and blueprinted for $400, a Mallory Mag for $225, Hedman Headers $150, flywheel and clutch was $300, T-10 4 Speed $300 and the car that it when into was 1969 Camaro RS with a 350/3 speed tranny $1500. One of the cars that raced in Div. 7 Top Sportman is selling on Racing Junk now for $97,000. If know racers money was never a limiting factor its always been how fast do want to go and how long will it take me to get there. Sacrifice is not uncommon in the racing fraternity.

NHRA gives you a choice; what's the problem? Spend $25K and weekend bracket race a 10-second car to your heart's content - or spend $2M and campaign a Pro Stock, if no-breakout 6-second racing is your thing. Or a jillion options between those two extremes.

If TS racing were no-breakout, that $97K car you mentioned would be about $300,000.

Breakout racing was started to help small track operators have something they could run week after week that didn't cost the racer a fortune. It should have been a stepping stone to heads up racing. That didn't happen.

Instead the big mistake was bringing breakout racing of any kind to national events. It should have stayed at the weekend tracks. All national event racing should be heads up. If you want to race at a national, you would have to step up to heads up.

It is an insult to take peoples money for admission to an NHRA national event, then subject them to throttle stop racing.

In the scenario you describe above, that would limit National Events to Top Fuel, Nitro Funny Car, Pro Stock, Pro Mod, Alcohol Dragster, Alcohol Funny Car and Pro Stock Motorcycle. They are the only classes that race heads up.

Explain to me how in the world you could have a class like Super Stock run without a breakout/index? You Can't.

What is really being said here, whether you meant to say it or not, is no sportsman at National Events. I will be the first person to admit that when I am at the track I head for the RV/Beer Stand when Super Comp or Super Gas pulls into the lanes, but I am not in favor of eliminating those guys from the show.
