Shock and Awe: Critchley and Hernandez in the Fives!

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (March 17, 2007) - It happened - and soundly. Troy Critchley is the first AMS Staff Leasing Pro Modified Challenge presented by Tindle Enterprises, Inc. driver to ever run a sub-six second run, and not to be outdone, his AMS/Rage teammate Josh Hernandez did the same thing just moments later.

Critchley came to the line in his AMS Staff Leasing '70 Plymouth Barracuda in front of the full stands at the ACDelco NHRAS Gatornationals and ran 5.946/245.27, the quickest and fastest Pro Mod run ever - in AMS Pro Mod history and possibly around the world. Just moments later, Josh Hernandez also broke soundly into the fives, running 5.951/243.68 behind the wheel of the Dr. Moon's Rage '68 Camaro.

For either of these runs to be official AMS World Records, the driver will have to back up the run within one percent. For Critchley, he will have to run a 6.005 or better to earn the 100 championship points, and barring Critchley's backup, Hernandez would have to run 6.010 or better to earn the points. For speed, Crithchley, who has already reset the world record at 241.41 this weekend, would need to run 242.817 for the 245.27 to stand as world record. Barring Critchley's backup, Hernandez would need a 241.24 for his 243.68 to be a World Record.

The normally talkative Critchley blurted: "I'm speechless. I knew it would happen, but... wow! Talk about a proud moment."

Team owner and series sponsor Dave Wood said he was floating on a cloud. "I'm so proud of Troy, Josh, Howard Moon [crew chief on both cars] and the guys. The entire crew has worked so hard, I'm as happy as can be. This is why I love Pro Mods, and I know this season will be incredible," Wood said.

Both Critchley and Hernandez earned their spot in the exclusive AMS Pro Mod Five Second club - an honor reserved for the first five drivers running a five-second pass. For their efforts, each driver will be awarded $500 from a fund subsidized by fellow AMS Pro Mod drivers.

Hernandez, who had previously run a five-second pass in the IHRA, said, "What can I say? The teams that compete in this series are arguably the very best teams in the world, and to be part of this exclusive club is amazing."

Eliminations in the first of ten AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge events begin this evening, and conclude Sunday, March 18.

About AMS Pro Mods:
The AMS Staff Leasing Pro Modified Challenge, presented by Tindle Enterprises, Inc. pits the very best blown, nitrous, and turbo-charged Pro Modified drag racers against one another for the coveted BAE Championship Cup and a combined a purse and championship fund of more than $365,000. On a national platform at ten NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series national events, the AMS Pro Mods are at the pinnacle for Pro Mod racers worldwide. Often called some of the most challenging straight-line racing in the world by drivers and crew chiefs alike, the cars utilize different combinations of methanol-burning engines in late-model full-body chassis and produce around 2.500 horsepower. The cars also utilize full suspension and must be equipped with working doors on each side of the vehicle to maintain aesthetically "car-like" appearance. Top performance numbers for the quarter-mile races are in the low six-seconds at speeds in excess of 230 mph.

AMS Staff Leasing is the title sponsor and original founder of the series, now in its seventh year with the NHRA. AMS is one of the nation's largest Professional Employer Organizations (PEO), primarily serving the construction industry.
