Scott Weis Tapped to Drive Top Fuel Dragster for Scott Griffin Motorsports

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Veteran driver Scott Weis, who has driven in the nitro ranks since 2000, has been named the driver of the Scott Griffin Motorsports Top Fuel Dragster for the 2007 racing season with a major associate sponsorship from Barrett Enterprises. Serta Mattresses and Isky Cams will continue their involvement in an associate role. The team is ready to tackle a limited NHRA schedule with two IHRA crossover races, the Spring Nationals and World Finals at Rockingham Dragway.

"I am very excited to bring a strong, experienced driver like Scott Weis on board," SGM owner Scott Griffin said. "He brings a lot to the table. He understands marketing, interacts well with the fans and is one of the best on-track drivers out there.

The team will be based at Griffin's 21,000 square foot race shop in Wilmington, N.C. Construction on the shop was completed earlier this year.

"This is like a dream come true," Weis, from Ashland, Virginia, said of driving for Scott Griffin Motorsports. "One thing about Scott that made this a very attractive opportunity was the face that he does everything first-class. From the shop to the crew, I am going to have quality resources behind me. I am especially excited to work with (Crew Chief) Lance Larsen, he knows as much about tuning a nitro engine as anyone. I can't wait for the season to begin. This is the greatest Christmas present I could have ever received."

The team will run 12 events on the POWERade NHRA Racing Tour along with the two Rockingham IHRA events. Griffin has just received two new chassis from Brad Hadman and the team is preparing each to hit the track for testing prior to its debut at the Gator Nationals.

"I really have to thank Bill and Patti Barrett from Barrett Enterprises," Griffin said. "They have been such strong supporters of Scott's career and helped in putting this deal together. They are great people who truly love drag racing."

Bill Barrett visited the Scott Griffin Headquarters earlier this month and were impressed with what they saw.

"His facility is amazing," Bill Barrett said. "Scott has made a genuine commitment to succeeding in the Top Fuel ranks. Scott and his wife Holly were tremendous hosts and we look forward to winning some races with them."
