Boy, if anyone was looking for a reason to run national events, check out the top dragster incident (I saw it on SpeedTV.com). TWO cars in big trouble and the course marshals had the fire extinguishers on the drivers in 15 seconds and the trucks were there in 30 seconds from coming to a halt. Compare that to a typical NASCAR wreck and it is even more astounding. I was humbled by what I saw and very proud of BIR, the NHRA and my beloved sport.

You are right, the response was great. The question is. Was the wreck caused by an ill prepared race track or were the cars sent down an unsafe track that was not reported by the Safety Safari? Or even worse, did they report it and the starter and NHRA sent them anyway? Money trumps safety at the NHRA every time.

I watched the coverage on ESPN 3 and just before staging, Driver Kritzky kept pointing at something on the track or down track, I couldn't really tell which. But the results were certainly caused by a slick track...

if i had a dime for every time reinhardt said last weekend 'the grime boss safety safari are rolling out to clean it up'.
they do an excellent job there is no question.....the top dragster crashes are a testament
- grime boss has the best adv't. gig going w/nhra
- the pro racing is a joke with as much stuff they put down on the track....oil and parts
- even vincent nobile grenaded a motor in the lights in Q1 on friday
- one of the TF first round cleanups on sunday was a joke...i think there were parts thrown so hard it damaged the track; never
seen so many guys and equipment congregated in one spot on the track for so long.

and terry mcmillen....love ya' terry, but every damn race he seems to blow shit up.....why don't they ask him to skip indy?
i can think of one independent team that was told 'no indy' a few years ago because they blew their shit up too much.

one of these live TV weekends nhra will get bit bad

Thanks for the feed Eugene, awesome reaction from Safari. Looks like track was wet, trying to get race in cause this incident. Safety first, maybe they should check track more often in wet conditions.

I"m at the Divisional in Topeka and one of the drivers in the pair prior to them indicated that the track was wet. It's a tough call and I know the starting line guys do their best .... but scary when it goes away so quick. Very impressive to see the SS on top of two separate wrecks that quick.

Jeff, one thing for sure you won't have to worry about wet track in Topeka, Fri and Sat mid nineties and sunny.

The Safety Safari has always impressed me. One of the things that sticks out to me the most about Cory's blow over in 2006 is that you can hear the safety safari truck accelerating up the track to get to Cory while his car is still crashing and spinning .
