Rumor has it that the price of Nitro went up $400.00 in Seattle. In Denver it was $1600.00 for 40 gallons of Nitro. NOW its $2000.00 for 40 gallons of Nitro in Seattle. Wow.......

unconfirmed at this time

Im a bit confused about this nitro shortage . Is there an actual shortage or is it just because they are only allowed to use one suppliers nitro so that supplier bumps up the price knowing that the teams need and that they can only get it from them ? I don't know much about this topic so thought I would ask

I know someone who knows someone in the business who was predicting at least another grand onto that price before the end of the year.

The same guy also told me that when he started match racing for a living over 20 years ago, the price was $1,800 in THOSE dollars, which probably would have been over $3,000 in today's dollars.

What did someone on here say? Booze, cigarettes, and nitro are always a bargain at any price? :D

That was also a bigger drum.

They changed the law on how many pounds of nitromethane can be in a drum because Achmed isn't smart enough to buy another drum if his recipe calls for it. What we spend millions of tax dollars to accomplish.

I see, 400 pound limit
VP Racing Fuels

RACING NITROMETHANE

VP Racing Fuels produces VP NITRO RACETM racing nitromethane and distributes it throughout North America. VP NITRO RACE is of the highest purity and consistency. Used by top teams in drag racing around the world, VP NITRO RACE satisfies NHRA specifications for Top Fuel and Funny Car at 90% and 96%.

Available in 400 pound drums (about 42 gallons).

So you're buying a drum thats 20% empty or 80% full depending on if you are a pessimist or optimist.

Just out of curiosity. do they ship this stuff around the country with the 20% empty space filled with an inert gas? Is that even safe if there's an accident?

Before you make comments like that, remember that the guy who used nitro to blow up a building was born in upstate NY. I'm not saying we raise terrorists up here, I just think you ought to stick to the facts.

You're right. I assumed the change had more to do with 9/11 than Oklahoma City. It seems debatable as to whether the nitro in OKC even added to the explosion.

The point of the post was that anyone (is that better?) who is out there making a freaking bomb will buy a second drum if their recipe calls for 50 gallons. I don't think those are tax dollars well spent. Totally futile, IMO.

I made an ethnic generalization because certain people seem to have fallen for their own thieving governments' brainwashing into believing that the U.S. and our capitalism is somehow to blame for their poverty. I shouldn't be talking about capitalism with the way this country seems to be headed, though.

New idea

'Come to the Darkside - We have Nitro - And won't bend you over for it'

I have been trying to research this but according to the trial transcripts Timothy Chambers or Glynn Tipton could never positivly identify McVeigh or Nichols as the customer with the faded pickup truck and white camper shell who bought the three drums in Ennis Texas. I have been wasting my time coming up with material to debate conspiracy goons elsewhere.

Seems the price jumped just after the announcemet of increased purses and no oil down fee's. ;)

50 dollars a gallon, that is BS and the way diesel fuel, hotels, etc is going up, I dont see professional drag racing being around for much longer.

Oh maybe, just maybe OBAMA will get elected and make some BIGchanges.:p

The price goes over 2000 when taxes are included. The price without tax is $1822 for 42 gallon. Stay tuned to CompetitionPlus.com this week.

I sure hope the chemical makeup of what has been being sold is covered in detail now that some results are in hand. I believe Alan Johnson's comments alluded to this concern.
