The running of the AC Delco Nationals on Halloween weekend proved to be a weekend of learning and frustration for Rodger Brogdon and the Steve Kent Racing team. With the pits at the Strip at Las Vegas filled with costumed spooks and goblins, the new Pontiac GXP inherited its own share of gremlins. As a result of on board electrical problems, the team failed to make the final field for Sunday eliminations.
But, as driver Rodger Brogdon pointed out, “This is exactly the reason we wanted to get on track before the end of the season, to shake down this new car and get any and all problems resolved before we begin the 2009 Full Throttle Championship.” “If we had waited till the first of 2009 to get on track it would have put us behind the eight ball from the very start, this way we can work out the small problems now and have all winter to build our arsenal and prepare for the 2009 championship chase.”
Immediately following the final qualifying session the team began the process of a complete electrical system overhaul, and now plans to do extensive testing prior to the season ending Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, CA. With just twelve days before the first qualifying lap at Pomona, the team will have its work cut out for it. Team owner Steve Kent was quick to point out that “This team was always able to get the job done when we were running in Comp, so there’s no reason to expect anything less when we get to Pomona.”
