[coverattach=1]With the NHRA Full Throttle tour rolling into Houston Raceway Park this weekend, Rodger Brogdon and the Steve Kent Racing Pro Stock team know that they are going to be racing on 1320 feet of very familiar racetrack. For Houston based Brogdon, the track in Baytown has been his home track for many years, and it’s been a very successful relationship.

Competing at your home track is often times a tougher race than any other on the tour. With friends, family and employees wanting to lend their support, keeping focused on the race at hand can become a tougher task than normal. When you’re in the process of building a competitive NHRA Pro Stock team from the ground up, the race weekend can become even more challenging.

As the team continues its climb up the Pro Stock ladder, it will do so for the second race in a row with an engine from Cagnazzi racing and Tommy Utt lending his years of experience. After setting a performance baseline at the event in Phoenix, the team continued to make progress at Gainesville and has its sights set on improving still at their home track this weekend.

The way Rodger Brogdon sees it, “We’ve always had success at Baytown and hopefully with what we learned testing after Gainesville and in Belle Rose last week we can continue to improve. Steve Kent knew when we put the team together that it would take time to work our way into the qualified field. Being able to make the show at our home track with all our friends and associates on hand sure would be nice. The incremental numbers that we’ve been running show that we have the power, we’ve just got to find that combination that allows everything to come together and get into the show.”

For Brogdon, Steve Kent and the rest of the team, they know that making the NHRA Pro Stock show isn’t a question of if, but a matter of when. Not surprisingly, each and every one of their competitors in the pits knows it’s but a matter of time, and no time would be better than at their home track.
