Seriously, can we just have a normal weekend for a change?
With back to back rain shortened events over the last 2 races all Rodger Brogdon and the EDGE Pain & Performance Chips team would like to see is a normal weekend during this year’s running of the O’Reilly Route 66 Nationals is a normal weekend.
Three weeks ago in Bristol, the team’s rhythm was interrupted by the rain, a driveline gremlin that popped up unexpectedly and an emergency trip to the hospital for crew chief Tim Freeman. Thankfully Tim’s visit with the Doctors turned out to be not as serious as first thought and the rain turned out to be more of a nuisance than anything else. It was however, the issue with the driveline that bit the team in the second round.
In Norwalk two weeks ago rain once again played havoc with the schedule, eliminating everyone’s runs on Friday and forced the running of the K&N Challenge with just one tune-up run before eliminations. The team opened up with a great run to take the early qualifying lead, but then began to see a repeat of the driveline issues that ended their weekend early in Bristol, again taking an unexpected toll in eliminations.
“We‘re pretty sure we’ve tracked down our gremlin from the last 2 events,” commented Rodger, “but it sure would be nice to have all 4 qualifying runs in Joliet to set the stage for Sunday eliminations. Fortunately the weather forecast looks favorable, but you have to remember, it is Chicago and we’ve experienced all sorts of weather there in the past, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”
“Timmy is pretty much back on track with his health, so that’ll be in our favor this weekend, but we will be without (team owner) Steve Kent and his car this weekend. Steve has some commitments that will keep his car parked for Joliet and the western swing, so we’re just going to have to do it on our own.”
“Last year at Joliet we made it to our first semi-final, and so far this year we’ve been able to do even better. We’ve got a real good hot rod right now, it’s just not shown its early season consistency these last two events. With good weather and some solid qualifying runs we’re looking to get back on track this weekend. We've got a car and team that can win an event, we just need to get it done.”
