JORDAN STATION, ONTARIO (August 22, 2008) – Carl Spiering is not the only racer from the ERD (Engine Research and Development) shops to win a coveted IHRA “Ironman” in drag racing competition this season.

Spiering, driver of the Eaton Cutler-Hammer 1963 Corvette Pro Modified, won the IHRA’s Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton, Alberta earlier this year.

And Rob Becker, one of ERD’s engine building staff, took his GT/DA 1987 Camaro to an eliminator win in the Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am presented by Mr. Gasket at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan Saturday August 9 as part of the IHRA’s North Stars and Thunder divisional racing.

“This is just terrific to win an Ironman,” said the Port Colborne, Ontario racer. “It’s my first one, and we were smiling all the way home from Martin.”

Becker also competes in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock series, and won the championship for that series in 2007 with his 600-horsepower small-block Camaro.

“We haven’t really done anything different this year from last,” Becker said when asked if he had changed set-ups or combinations. “The car has been good, I’ve been getting good lights, and I’ve been consistent. We’re basically running the same program we did last year.”

Becker ran a 10.091-second, 131.95-mph final pass to defeat Craig Marshall of Columbus, Ohio, who posted a, 9.008-second, 141.15-mph clocking in his 1998 Grand Am SS/AM entry. In Sunday’s final match-up, Venice Perno of Binbrook, Ontario, and a fellow Can-Am Stock/Super Stock series competitor of Becker’s, also won the final and an IHRA Ironman with his 1985 Thunderbird.

Sponsored by Eaton Powerware, Becker is part of the stable of winning race cars to come from the ERD (Engine Research and Development) facility in Jordan Station. Along with the Pro Modified of Carl Spiering, both Lisa and Monica Spiering participate in IHRA competition with the support of Eaton Powerware dragsters.
