Racing at Coastal Plains Raceway in Jacksonville, N.C. this past Saturday night, Smith was looking to run the tables once again at the second race of the year in the Quick 8 Pro Modified Association. Winning the first race of the season at Farmington Dragway a few weeks ago, Smith and his Skull Gear Nitrous injected Chevrolet Corvette was looking to extend his points lead even more.
Going into the first of three qualifying sessions on Saturday afternoon before the race kicked off that night, Smith was raring to go and aiming for the top spot. Running at the top of the charts during each qualifying pass, Smith would go on to claim the No. 1 position with a 4.05et going into Saturday night eliminations.
Running incredible numbers throughout the evening at the 1/8th mile track, Smith managed to cut great lights and advance his way to the finals.
In the finals, Smith would square off against Buzz Varner. With Varner having motor problems, Smith would go on to claim his second win of the year in the series, while setting a new track record during the process. Recording a time of 4.023et at 180.72mph, Smith would go on to break the previous track record.
“My car was acting a little funny during eliminations, but we changed a few things and it went back to flying,” said Smith. “We knew the conditions were good enough to run a big number, so we were going to go for it. Don Plemmon’s Quick 8 Series has had two races and we have won them both, I couldn’t be any happier with the car than I am right now.”
Smith once again extends his points lead in the series. You can catch Smith running again this weekend in Valdosta, Ga. in the ADRL series, May 4-5.
