No matter what the per second dollar value... it sure makes NHRA look bad when a bracket racer can win more in one race than a Pro can... by a wide margin. Excluding the "Shoot Out" events of course.

Exactly. Of course if someone really wanted to stir things up and get this thread rolling they could just comment on how much driving talent was at this event (Memphis) vs. at a NHRA National event. :D Of course I won't go there.

You seem to be forgetting one minor issue, how much these guys are paying in entry fees to come up with this kind of purse...............

Can't win it if you ain't in it. Maybe the Pros should start paying entry fees then to help their purse out.

The Pros pay no entry fees. But look at their dollar out to potential money back.... How many millions does it take to campaign a car in the pro classes? What is the pay out? Think about how many runs a year a good bracket racer makes a year vs. a pro. Speaking purely of dollars to dollars a bracket racer gets more bang for their dollar. How many pro cars/drivers go down the track 300-500 + times a year. I'll gladly plunk down 2-5K for this kind of race.Heck starting with 3rd rnd winner it pays 1000 a round...

The money has to come from somewhere... and NHRA sure ain't stepping up!

Let's see...

A fuel car cost about $8000 per run... a fuel car cost $200,000-$250,000 (?)... they can win $50,000?

A bracket car cost around $50,000... cost about $10 per run... so they have to pay $2000 entry fee... the semi-final losers made as much as a fuel car winner.

I think it's cool that there's much money being won. But, comparing this type of racing to the pro deal is apples and oranges. With entry fees at $2K or more, this is kind of like mixing racing with a lottery. Still very cool, just different. Am I wrong?

Exactly right. Hold this race 23 times in a year, divide it into four classes and let's see what the payout will be. You would probably be down to 50 cars or less by the third race and the series would be dead before it was half way done.

I'm sure NHRA could hold a comparable event once a year and the payout could be just as high, but that's not what they do. They are trying to get non-racers to pay the bills and do a decent job of that. Could they do more?...That's another thread.

NHRA and the other touring organizations depend on spectators and sponsors to pay the bills for the pros, not the participants, so it's really no comparison.

Dave and Nunzio,
Great assessment, definitely an apples and oranges scenario, my point being that the bracket racers are putting up the majority of their own purse to race, so how do you compare that with the big show payouts.......you can't..... guess I should have waited until I had more time to make a concise post...

Greg and Eathon, good luck next year......!!!

Thanks, Ronny!

Yes, the brackets to Pros is an apples and oranges kind of deal. But that doesn't make the Pro payouts any less pathetic.

Of course, NHRA has raised the entry fees for sportsman racers numerous times over the last few years without raising payout... makes you wonder why events like the Million and other big bucks races are growing while national and divisional attendance is on the decline in most regions.
