[coverattach=1]Plainfield, CT – After weeks of thrashing to get the team’s 1941 Willy’s ready for competition again, the team’s hard work paid off with a semi-final finish at the recently completed Super Chevy Show Nitro Coupe race at Maple Grove.
The team struggled during qualifying and ended up 7th in the final qualifying order, but got it together when it really counted the most. In the first round, team driver Paul Athey left on opponent Steve King with a .045 to .052 starting line advantage. After leaving the line, it was Athey’s driving skills that earned the win light. With the car dancing all over the right lane, Athey kept it between the lines and ran a 4.04 to beat King’s 4.08 run.
Athey and the team then faced a tough opponent in Doug Winters in the semi-final round. The two drivers left close together but Winters’ 4.01 run was too much for Athey’s pedaling 4.06 run. It was another close drag race.
Next up for Red Eagle Racing is a series of car shows and displays before hitting the track again in three weeks at the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod race at Budds Creek, MD. The team’s Willy’s will be on display at Ocean Beach in New London, CT Monday 7/20 from 4pm-8pm and also at Mohegan Sun on Wednesday 7/22 from 4pm-9:30pm. After that the car will be on display at Happy Jack’s in Plainfield, CT from Noon-4pm on Saturday 7/25. If you’re in the area, stop by and check out the team.
