<P>(8-31-08) Mocksville, NC - Randy Weatherford could easily have the car to beat on any given race day, but sorting out a new combination can be tough, and going the distance can often be elusive. Saturday night at O'Reilly Farmington Dragway, however, was Weatherford's time to shine. After capturing the pole, Weatherford then turned on the win light 3 consecutive times to score his first Quick-8 Racers Association victory of 2008.

Weatherford, the 2006 Champion of the Don Plemmons Quick-8 series, qualified his Bickel Camaro on the pole with an impressive 4.01 @ 183mph. The first round of eliminations got underway at sunset, with Weatherford rolling to the line to take on reigning Quick-8 Racers Association Champ, Buzz Varner. Weatherford was out of the throttle early, his 4.13 et barely holding off Varner's charging 4.15 at the finish line.

Weatherford then unloaded massive power in the semis to get around local favorite Steve Vick. Weatherford's stout 4.00 e.t. stood as low elapsed time for the event. In the finals, Weatherford met Kenny Rucker, the West Virginia native who captured his first series win 3 weeks earlier right here at Farmington. Rucker escaped a round one gate job by Tori Cagle, then upset #2 qualifier, Dale Brinsfield, to advance to the finals.

With late night dew beginning to form on the racing surface, both drivers had a totally different approach in their final round tune up. Weatherford took out clutch in an effort to make a clean pass, while Rucker admittedly added clutch, calling his decision "greedy." In the end, both drivers blew the tires off before 60 feet. "I didn't hear Kenny beside me so I got back in it and starting peddling the car down the track," said Weatherford. Rucker's popular Willys went silent shortly after the start, allowing Weatherford to dance his way to the finish line, stopping the clocks at 5.79 et.

Weatherford, who scored a victory in an open field Pro Mod event at Orangeburg Dragway last week, has put many performance combinations to the test this season. He's recently found a winning recipe with Charlie Buck and full time tuner, Kevin Bowen. A mammoth 800 inch motor is currently on order from Charlie Buck, with hopes of taking delivery later this year.
