MADISON, Ill. (May 4, 2007) – Rainy conditions stole the second round of qualifying from the AMS/Rage team, leaving Hernandez holding onto an off-pace 6.191 pass for a No. 2 qualifying position and Troy Critchley at No. 6 with a 6.842. Without both attempts to qualify, the team was forced to make difficult decisions regarding who would race where on Saturday.
Originally attempting to qualify and race at both the AMS Pro Mod event in Madison as well as in the ADRL event in Valdosta, Ga., weather put a major kink into the plans when the second round was cancelled due to unsafe conditions on the track.
Dave Wood said, “We have been tracking the weather all day, hoping we’d be able to make both events with both Troy and Josh, but it’s not playing out as we had originally planned.
“At this point, we’re going to leave Troy in St. Louis to try to move up into the field, and take Josh to Valdosta to try to win both the World Finals from last year as well as the Georgia Drags this weekend.
“It’s easy to see that we were attempting to work a miracle, and we almost had it, but, we’re going to make the best with what we have in front of us,” Wood said.
Wood said they are recruiting another driver to pilot Critchley’s Corvette in the ADRL event, stating that he really wanted to see both AMS/Rage cars competing at the event.
“It’s been so great to see what Kenny [Nowling, ADRL director] has done with the series, and I’m committed to racing our cars there, too. The scheduling conflict wasn’t intended at all, but, like I said, I’m trying to make things work on both sides.”
Qualifying in AMS Staff Leasing Pro Mod Challenge concludes Saturday with rounds currently scheduled for 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Eliminations are scheduled for Sunday. ADRL Qualifying is scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. with the 2006 Finals to be contested during the 2 p.m. session. Eliminations are scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday night. After eliminations, Hernandez and the AMS Rage team will travel back to the St. Louis area to battle in the AMS Pro Mod Challenge on Sunday.
