Last week, August 26 to September 1, 2007 as National Truck Drivers Appreciation Week.
I just want to thank all the truck drivers that help to keep our economy rolling, and a special thanks to any of you ‘maters …Ron Dunlap for one, that are drivers.
LOL, every day someone asks me how I'm doing and every day I reply "It's just another beautiful day in the trucking business."
Only reason I ever got into it and only reason I put up with it today was/is a love for funny cars and it's the most money I know how to legally make. A lot of drivers seem to go overboard with the "If you've got it, a truck brought it" stuff, but most of them are out there for the same thing I am. It ain't out of the goodness of our hearts!
I just wish people would treat us in traffic the same way they would if we were waiting in line together anywhere else. The level of disrespect and the frequency with which we get it is something else. It's absolutely the worst part of the job, followed with being gone, rough roads, the DOT, trying to find a spot to legally park and sleep (you get ticketed if you do and ticketed if you don't for being over on log hours) etc, etc. More than 50% of truck driving school graduates are not driving a truck one year after they graduate.
I actually had a woman in Winchester, VA get out of her car to curse me the other week simply because I HAD to force someone to give me break at an intersection (with my signal on, which is a signal to most to speed up and NOT give you a break) because they had a backwarda$$ onramp entrance with no warning. Just ruined her day, I guess.
