Torco Racing Fuels enters three-year deal with IHRA to bolster the Torco Racing Fuels Pro Stock Showdown and the Torco Racing Fuels Pro Modified Shootout
NORWALK, OHIO (October 17, 2007)--The premiere Pro Stock and Pro Modified programs in drag racing just got a whole lot better.
IHRA and Torco Racing Fuels, the Evan Knoll-owned fuel company based in Decatur, Mich., have entered into a three-year agreement that will turn the Torco Racing Fuels Pro Modified Shootout and the Torco Racing Fuels Pro Stock Showdown into $100,000 contests that will pit the eight top drivers in each respective class against each other with $50,000 first prizes on the line. The runner-up will take home $20,000 while each semifinalist will pocket $9,000. Quarterfinalists will claim $3,000 each.
The Pro Modified Shootout, which is a point-based eight-car qualified field, will be run off at the Torco Racing Fuels Northern Nationals held at Knoll Gas Motorsports Park in Martin , Mich. next August. The Pro Stock Showdown, with the same qualifying points structure, will be run off at the Torco President’s Cup Nationals in Budds Creek , Md. Next October.
Drivers in both classes accumulate points through qualifying position at each Knoll Gas Nitro Jam event. The drivers must display the proper decals on their car to accumulate points. The new Shootout and Showdown structures will be in place through the 2010 Knoll Gas Nitro Jam season.
IHRA president Aaron Polburn is thrilled with Torco’s increased commitment to these programs.
“The greatest show in Pro Stock and Pro Modified racing just upped the ante quite a bit,” Polburn said. “In the history of drag racing, regardless of the sanction or event, this will set the bar as far as the most money ever ran for in a single Pro Stock or Pro Modified shootout. And we have Evan Knoll and Torco Racing Fuels to thank for it. Evan continues to blow me away with his commitment to IHRA Drag Racing. Every year I ask myself what else he can do and every year he completely astounds me.”
Knoll is looking forward to seeing the race teams in both classes chase the Shootout and Showdown titles.
“I am very proud of IHRA for its innovative developments in this sport, both for the racers and fans,” Knoll said. “IHRA is a sanctioning body of great people and I’m convinced IHRA Drag Racing will become even more of a household name in racing for everyone…fans, racers and sponsors. This $100,000 is to show the Pro Modified drivers and everyone in the Mountain Motor Pro Stock class we know it takes a lot of money to compete in these classes. Hopefully this will help them out.”
Knoll relishes his affiliation with IHRA, especially in the Pro Modified and Pro Stock classes.
“IHRA dominates Pro Mod, period,” he said. “It has become one of the most recognized classes in racing and it all started with IHRA. Mountain Motor Pro Stock…there is nothing else like it. Again, IHRA was the first to build this class up. The racers are a great family and the fans are unreal. You want to talk about down-home good people in racing? You have it all here in one package deal. I can’t want to go racing and wish everyone luck.”
