7-23-08 TONAWANDA, NEW YORK – One of the Pro Modified Racing Association’s biggest boosters is pleased to be a part of the next event in the 2008 series, the Fourth Annual PMRA Challenge presented by G-Force Race Cars, Grainy's Automotive and Niagara Auto.
This race will be held Saturday, July 26 at Dunn Tire Raceway Park just outside of Lancaster, New York.
“We want to give back to the PMRA series,” said G-Force Race Cars’ Jim Salemi, one of the most prominent builders in the class. “We also want to give our support to the racers who drive G-Force race cars.”
Some of the PMRA teams with G-Force cars include Mike Stawicki, The Grainy Brothers, Ike Maier, and Mark Nielsen.
“Jim Salemi has been involved with the PMRA for several seasons now, and we are grateful for the support of G-Force Race Cars,” said PMRA Series Director of Operations Bruce Mehlenbacher. “Jim has always been a big supporter of ours.”
Going into this event, last year’s PMRA champion, Bruce Boland of Hamilton, Ontario, leads the Point Award Series Championship sponsored by Wix Filters, Valvoline, Uni-Select and Moen. Boland was the inaugural PMRA winner at this track.
Last year’s victor was the Livonia, New York-based 1941 Willys team of Guenther Racing.
Larry Sinke of Welland, Ontario is second in points, Terry Brown of Caledonia, Ontario is third, Jeff Roth of Kitchener, Ontario is fourth, Ike Maier of Tottenham, Ontario is fifth, Randy Jewell of Holley, New York and Joe Boniferro of Niagara Falls, Ontario are tied in sixth at present, and eighth is Matt Guenther of Livonia, New York. Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York is ninth, and Sam Andreacchi of Toronto is in tenth. The Grainy Brothers from Tonawanda, New York are in 11th spot, and Mike Cusimano of Rochester, New York is in 12th position.
Salemi also considers the event provides a great opportunity for local fans and friends to watch the fast cars, and plus watching the driver of his 1967 Camaro, Mike Stawicki of Medina, New York.
“This race also gives family and friends a chance to see Mike, which doesn’t happen very often,” said Salemi.
Along with the PMRA racing, the track will host a round of racing in the Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series. There will be Alcohol Funny Car racing, and a full card of regular weekly competition.
The one-day event is scheduled for Saturday, July 26. Qualifying is to begin at 2:30 p.m. with eliminations to start at 5:00 p.m.
The Can-Am Stock/Super Stock Series, known for their pristine stock-appearing race cars and strong wheelstanding launches, this series, formed in 1996, features competitors from Ontario and New York. The popular cars tour each season for championship points and prizes at drag strips throughout Southern Ontario and Western New York.
