PJ1 has joined the growing list of associate sponsors of NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle racer Peggy Llewellyn and the Karl Klement Racing Buell. The Scottsdale, Arizona based lubricants, additives, oils, paints, cleaners and protectants company brings its 35+ years of motorcycle, automotive, and aerospace experience to the table for Llewellyn and the Klement team. "We are really excited to have them on board," said team owner Karl Klement. "We used PJ1 products through our sponsor Tucker Rocky, and we used other products and none compare with PJ1. So Steve Johnson at Tucker hooked us up with P.J. Harvey at PJ1, and here we are supporting the product that works for us. They will be a great marketing partner and we will do everything we can to promote their product."
"P.J. Harvey's a great guy," said co-crew chief Shane Maloney. "They're a well-respected company and I'm excited to be associated with 'em."
"I've watched Peggy at a couple of the nationals and was pretty impressed," said Harvey, whose company also sponsors several Funny Car and Top Fuel teams. "We've got a product and these guys had a need for it. Theirs looks like a good program and it helps out our major distributor Tucker Rocky, so we're real pleased about the opportunity."
"My dad used PJ1 products on our motorcycles and sells their products at his cycle shop in San Antonio, so I'm very familiar with the brand," said Llewellyn.
Peggy and the team are looking forward to racing again in Joliet after the long layoff following the St. Louis event. Not that they've exactly been vacationing in the time off. "I've been busy as hell," said Maloney, who took the bike to New Orleans to get a new tail section wrapped by Baudier Graphix, another associate sponsor.
"Chip Ellis (G2 Motorsports driver and master of all trades) made a seat built just for me," said Llewellyn. "It replaces the padding that I had and gives me a two step seat that I can start getting into. It fits just right!"
"Peggy's definitely gonna feel more comfortable on the bike, and she's gonna go faster," said Klement. "We were short on horsepower in St. Louis, but we've got that problem solved."
"We've been working on our engines, getting 'em ready and trying to find extra some extra power to run with the 10 pounds that the NHRA added to the Buells," said Maloney. "It is what it is and we can't change the rules, so we have to figure out how to go fast. For us, it really only amounts to 5 pounds, so I don't think it will affect us all that much."
"We tested at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta on Monday," said George Bryce, the other co-crew chief on the team. "We tried out our new motor combination we put together and got the rust out, since we haven't been to the races in a while. We ran good, so we're expecting to run good at Route 66."
"We ran a 7.03, which was pretty good for the very hot and humid conditions in Valdosta," added Maloney. "Peggy rode really well and I have a feeling we're gonna run really good in Joliet."
"I was glad to get back on the motorcycle after-what? A month?" said Llewellyn. "We put down some pretty good laps, so we're ready."
"We've got all our engines rebuilt and we've for sure got more horsepower," finished Klement. "I think we're gonna win this thing!"
