PETE BERNER LOOKING TO GET ON RIGHT TRACK AT TORONTO MOTORSPORTS PARK

CAYUGA, ONT. – Pete Berner has a lot working for him during his 2007 IHRA Torco’s CompetitionPlus Pro Stock championship defense and if he has his way more good things will come to fruition this weekend.

Berner, a mechanical contractor from Crete, Illinois, knows the time is now to right his ship as this weekend’s IHRA ACDelco Canadian Nationals at Toronto Motorsports Park begins.

“We have logged quite a few laps in testing and I think we are on to some good things,” said Berner. “I am excited about our chances this weekend and look forward to the event.

“We do need to get back on top of our game and I feel like the advances we have made in testing will afford us that opportunity. This class has gotten so competitive there is no margin for error at this point.”

Indeed, Berner is correct. Only four races remain on the tour including this weekend. He is currently third in points, 116 out of first and 59 from second.

This status does not bode well for Berner, a man driven towards excellence.

“There are some things we can accept and others we can’t,” said Berner. “We have a championship caliber team here. We aren’t working any less hard than we were when we won the championship. It’s just some breaks aren’t falling our way like they used to.

“It’s up to us to make our own breaks but sometimes fighting fate can be a tough thing. We’ll just keep hammering away at it.”
