OPENING DAY NO PROBLEM FOR LOUISIANA RACERS

BELLE ROSE, La. – Louisiana racers used the home track advantage to lead their fields after day one of qualifying at the fourth annual NHRA JEGS.Com Cajun SPORTSnationals being held this weekend at No Problem Raceway Park. This is a national event exclusively for NHRA Sportsman racers competing in the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series. Top Sportsman Driver Bert Prejean and Top Dragster racer Joey Marcotte got off to a quick start, both qualifying in the top position.

Prejean of St. Amant , La. , made a pass of 6.866 seconds at 201.22 mph to qualify in the first position edging out Earl Folse of Raceland , La. , in Top Sportsman. Folse ran 6.889 seconds at 200.80 mph qualifying in the second position.

In Top Dragster, Marcotte of Denham Springs , La. , jumped in front of the pack with a qualifying time of 6.183 mph at 226.58 mph. Qualifying in the second spot was Michael Manners of Willis , Texas , who ran 6.361 mph at 175.52 mph.

Chase Williams of Carthage , Texas , driving a ’05 Grand Am, qualified on top with a time of 8.769 seconds and .721 under the index in Comp Eliminator. Michael Johnson of Springdale , Ark. , qualified in the second position with a pass of 8.596 seconds and .684 under the index.

Super Stock racer Bobby Dennis of Shorter, Ala. , finished the day strong qualifying on top driving a ’91 Oldsmobile and making a pass of 10.760 mph. James Caro of Houma , La. , drove a ’05 Dodge to qualify in the second position. Also, qualifying in the on top was Stock Eliminator driver James Wahl of Deltona , Fla. , making a pass of 13.761 seconds. Wahl edged out local racer Dempsey Pendarvis of Gonzales , La.

In the Sportsman Motorcycle category presented by Harley Davidson, Derrick Holloway of Port Allan , La. , found the top qualifying spot, while Brent Bradley of Mason , Tenn. , qualified in the second position.

Ending today’s action was the Comp Eliminator final from the NHRA O’Reilly Spring Nationals which was postponed due to rain earlier this month. Joey Tanksley of Green Well Springs , La. , picked up the win over Michael Johnson of Sprindale , Ark.

Racing continues Saturday at No Problem Raceway Park. Gates open at 7:00 am. Tickets are $20 and include a pit pass. Special events for Saturday include the Mopar Super Stock Hemi Challenge, a Pro Mod invitational and exhibition runs by Pro Stock Motorcycle teams from the NHRA POWERADE Series.
