Are there any other Funny Car drivers that have the escape hatch open during the burnout? This is Vern Moats at last weekend's Brainerd LODRS event.

Ya'll just gotta remember, Verns a old racer from way back, he does things a bit different than most.

VIAGRA

Wind going backwards keeps it up. There are some drivers who can pop them up with the arm restraints in place, but not a whole lot.

Look at the photo he is BACKING UP.. 1. the tires are not expanded like during the burn out.. and see the smoke over the hood or front of the car.. he must have just came to a stop & popped the hatch... IMO

But it looks like he is still going forward. I'll go with the Viagra answer. :D:eek:

It looked to me like the tires were settled down and going backwards, I mean, instead of GOODYEAR they said RAEYDOOG.

Otherwise, it might just be a very talented 'hand-job'

The hatch was up during the burn out, I was track monitor at the 1/8th mile the whole weekend, I was kinda wondering about it staying open when he was moving forward doing his burnout?

I can assure you that Vern was still moving forward in the above picture and he's definitely moving forward in this picture. Note: hatch is open.

The smoke above the car, is that from another car's burnout in the other lane? :)

The smoke is still too dense behind his car for him to be backing up already. If it's as smokey in there as it appears to be looking at the side window, I can see why he'd want it open.
