Just read on Comp Plus that Evan Knoll has been sentenced to 14 years in prison, 5 yrs probation, and restitution of $83mil. Almost every time someone comes into this sport and starts throwing money around, they don't last long, for one reason or another (usually something illegal). If it seems too good to be true, it usually is!

If anyone calls out the crooks on this forum they are beat to death until the the authorities get involved or they disappear leaving the team hanging. Seems like no one cares where the money comes from as long as it comes.

When Jerry Ruth and Jim Barnard were throwing around big bucks, no one questioned where a guy like Barnard was getting his.
Since he was "Buddies" with so many, Ruth escaped criticism from many who came down hard on less social convicted drug dealers.
The economics of nitro racing have always been and are today, so horrible that criminal activity is not just tolerated but considered normal.
Knoll is just one more shyster in an endless line marked drag racing.

Norman, the percentage of wonderful, lawful racers far outweighs the crooks. Occasionally, we are surprised that someone we would least expect does something illegal and gets caught. However, most of our racers are awesome people and part of our huge wonderful family.

The crooks usually are someone no one has ever heard of, who shows up with all the latest and greatest equipment and tries to make a splash in T/F or F/C. They tend to disappear just as fast and usually end up in jail. As I said, the percentage is very small.

The drug ring was international and it was so big that a Presidential task force was developed to stop it. There is an incredible book out there written by Ray Tercek about the players in the ring, how it began and how it was stopped. The book is available through Amazon and it's called the Investigation of "Pepe Chevez et a", I read it and it's a good read. This is a two book series but the one with the dragster and the boat on the cover is the one you want.
