O'Bannon looking to rebound in Montana
ACTON, Mont. - After narrowly missing the cut for the quickest divisional field in NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car history two weeks ago in Sonoma, Calif., Sean O'Bannon and the Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV's team will be looking to rebound during this weekend's Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Yellowstone Dragstrip in Acton, Mont. O'Bannon, who finished second nationally in Top Alcohol Dragster last year, reached the final round of this event last year, and hopes to enjoy the same success in Funny Car this year.
O'Bannon, 28, from Fontana, Calif., feels that despite missing the cut at the Sonoma Division 7 event two weeks ago, the team's strong semifinal finish at the Fram-Autolite Nationals held there the week prior shows the team is heading in the right direction.
"We're just hoping to bounce back in Acton this weekend," said O'Bannon. "That was a tough, tough field, and this is a learning year for us in Top Alcohol Funny Car. When we blew the motor up in the semifinals in Sonoma, we damaged our supercharger. Last weekend we never really got a handle on our new supercharger. We'll head to Montana this weekend and try to continue to become a better team. I have a lot of confidence in my Crew Chief Sam Shockley and this Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV's team. We went to the final here last year with the dragster and we would love to do it again this year."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, followed by two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
