TUCSON, Ariz. - After a semifinal finish in Phoenix last weekend, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Sean O'Bannon and the Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV's backed team will be looking to build on that performance during this weekend's Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, Ariz. O'Bannon is still looking for the illusive first win in the Funny Car class.
O'Bannon, 29, from Ontario, Calif., finished second nationally in the Top Alcohol Dragster class before making the switch to the Top Alcohol Funny Car division last season. Despite not getting the win last weekend in Phoenix, he and the Sam Shockley lead team are pleased with the progress the team is making.
"We have things heading in the right direction," said O'Bannon. "Sam and the guys had this Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV's Charger running pretty well. We made a good run in the semi's, Clint [Thompson] just made a little better run. That's drag racing. If we can keep making progress like we did in Phoenix, we'll be in good shape."
"Tucson should be interesting," O'Bannon continued. "The last two races we've been at national event tracks, plus there's a good bit of altitude in Tucson. It should be a new ball game this weekend. We're going to test on Thursday to try to get a run on the weekend."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with three sessions. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Saturday.
