<P>KENT, Wash. – While many racers wouldn’t consider a semifinal outing on the divisional level a ‘bad,’ outing, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Sean O’Bannon doesn’t classify it as good. At least by his father Jack’s Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV’s backed team’s standards. The team entered last weekend’s Woodburn, Ore., Division 6 event on the heels of three-straight final round appearances, but lost a close race in the semifinal round. O’Bannon has his eye set on returning to the final round during this weekend’s Schuck’s Auto Supply Nationals at Pacific Raceways just outside of Seattle.

O’Bannon, 29, of Ontario, Calif., feels that returning to a national event racing surface will help get the team back on track. The Sam Shockley lead team scored a runner-up finish at the Division 6 event held at Pacific Raceways last month.

“If you look at the three races we reached the finals at; they’re all good tracks,” said O’Bannon. “That’s not to say we didn’t run good last weekend. We qualified No. 1, but I don’t think anyone would have labeled the track as ‘good.’ Sam has this Tequila Patrón/Forest River RV’s Monte Carlo making a lot of horsepower right now. We have a pretty good tune up for the good tracks like Seattle.

“It’s supposed to be pretty cool this weekend,” O’Bannon continued. “There are going to be some good cars there, so it will be a fast race. Hopefully we can go out there and put this car in the mid 5.50’s to low 5.60’s and see what happens. This whole team is really hungry to get into the winner’s circle.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions on Friday followed by one final session on Saturday. Eliminations begin with round one Saturday afternoon and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
