Not the First Round Matt Smith Wanted (1 Viewer)

KING, NC (July 24, 2011) – Matt Smith went into the 32nd annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver, Colorado this weekend with high hopes. However, the mile-high city didn’t treat him so well.

After struggling a bit in qualifying at the altitude challenged track, Smith put his Best Brand Tech Buell in the 10th position as he headed into raceday.
Smith had to face Jerry Savoie first round, for the second week in a row. Smith left on Savoie, but after having some clutch issues, Smith would lose the round.

“We definitely didn’t have the weekend we wanted,” said Smith. “We ran through the clutch really bad first round. The good thing is we will be right back at it in Sonoma next weekend.”

“I have got to thank Bob Yonke with Best Brand Tech and Yonke Motorsports, along with Gary Lee Gregory of FastSharkSupply.com and KALMAK Racing for helping me get here. As well as Red Line Oil, Wilson Concrete and Senecal Construction, because without all of their support we wouldn’t even be out here on the West Coast.”

Smith sits third in the NHRA Full Throttle Championship point standings as the Series heads to Sonoma, California next weekend.
