No matter what the rules are, you are going to have the haves and the have nots. The haves will come out on top most of the time, just like they always have been. Go look at a qualifying sheet from any race from 1985- 30 years ago, and I bet the spread is usually more than it is now 1 to 16 with more cars trying.

Drag racing goes beyond just what you have in your semi trucks at the race track. If they made a huge change in the rules, the big teams will be the quickest to adapt and be ahead of the game even more than they are now. The "haves" could spend a week on the blower dynos and clutch dynos at the shop doing simulations and learn things without even starting the car. They could machine different sets of clutch levers (just one example) and have all sorts of different stuff to try, and go test for a week straight if need be with any new rules package. You think any of the low dollar teams would/could do that?? Not even close, and the performance gap would be bigger then, than it is now, guaranteed.
