LAS VEGAS - Three-time NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series Pro Stock championJeg Coughlin Jr. has filed an entry for The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway's Nov. 22-25 Bracket Nationals. Jeg's, a leading high performance parts distributor (JEGS High Performance - Your source for Edelbrock MSD Holley Mr. Gasket Moroso) founded by Coughlin's father, also will contribute gift certificates for the event.
"I will be driving two dragsters - my brother John's (NHRA) Division 3 Top Sportsman-winning car and my 2006 Mullis dragster that I raced in 2006 while not in the (NHRA) POWERade Drag Racing Series," said Coughlin. "I entered the race because I haven't bracket-raced all season due to the POWERade schedule and I was unable to make the trip to Florida after the season finale due to work. I found that LVMS was putting on a host of big money-races, including what could be a $64,000 race (Saturday's winner-take-all Ultimate Gambler) throughout the holiday weekend and decided to come try my luck. I look forward to visiting The Strip at LVMS - it's one of my favorites on the 24-race NHRA POWERade tour."
In 1997, Coughlin set an NHRA record by winning national events in four different classes: Super Gas, Super Stock, Comp and Pro Stock. The 37-year-old father of Jeg III won NHRA Pro Stock titles in 2000, 2002 and 2007.
Coughlin is not the lone NHRA luminary on the Bracket Nationals' entry list: fellow Pro Stocker Dave Connolly also has thrown his helmet into the ring.
Jeg's will award a $300 gift certificate to the Super Pro winner each day. The Pro class winner will receive a $200 Jeg's gift certificate each day. The Sportsman daily class winner will win a $100 Jeg's gift certificate and the weekend's "Geezer Gambler" winner will receive $100 in Jeg's merchandise.
