Refreshed and ready, Coughlin heads for Route 66 Raceway

JOLIET, Ill. - Following a couple of weeks away from the track and a relaxing family vacation on the beach in Sea Island, Ga., Jeg's driver John Coughlin is ready to return to action at this weekend's NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Route 66 Raceway. Coughlin plans to compete in Super Stock with his Jeg's Mail Order Cavalier and in the Super Comp class with his dragster. He has not raced either car since the Pontiac Performance Nationals in early June.

"I am rested and I'm excited to go racing again," said Coughlin. "Even though haven't raced much this year I still believe I can win for a divisional championship and possibly even a national championship simply because I haven't been to many races. I've only run two races in Super Stock this year and have just one race in Super Comp. I feel like both of my race cars are running well and as a driver, I feel confident that I can go there and win some rounds. There is still plenty of time for me to make a move."

Coughlin has won seven NHRA Lucas Oil Series races in his career and has been ranked as high as second in the final points standings. In his most recent appearance at the Pontiac Performance Nationals, he was the No. 1 qualifier in the Super Stock class. Earlier this season, Coughlin also claimed a $5,000 victory while racing with his younger brother, Jeg, in a major bracket racing event in Farmington, N.C.

Qualifying and time trials for the Route 66 event will be held on Friday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, July 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first round of eliminations in Super Stock is scheduled for Saturday at 6 p.m. while Super Comp eliminations will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday, July 16.
