QUOTABLES:
Doug Kalitta, driver of the Mac Tools Top Fuel Dragster:
“It was either going to make it or not, and we are so excited that it did. The Mac Tools dragster is running quick and fast, and we are thrilled it stuck. We were going for it because we had nothing to lose and are ready to go for race day and hope to bring home a Wally for Connie’s 75th birthday.”
David Grubnic, driver of the Optima Batteries Top Fuel Dragster:
“Well great start to the weekend with the team going down the track with a 3.78.That really takes the pressure off of us and gives us three passes to work on the race day set-up. We have plenty left in this Optima Batteries dragster, and we are looking forward to tomorrow.”
Del Worsham, driver of the DHL Toyota Camry Funny Car:
“The DHL Toyota Camry made some good runs in qualifying, but never made a clean pass. So I feel real good about where we are in qualifying. The car made four runs down the track with no tire smoke, but they were not perfect. Therefore, tomorrow lies in our own hands and I am excited about it.”
Alexis DeJoria, driver of the Tequila Patron Toyota Camry Funny Car:
“We ran well during that second qualifying session and finished Friday in the Top 12, which is so important because even if you don’t do well during those last two qualifying attempts on Saturday, you have a solid chance of making it on raceday. We were hoping to better our chances during these last two sessions today. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen- but we’re racing on Sunday, and that’s what counts. We finished in the No. 11 spot and we’ll see what happens tomorrow.”
