New type of racing at Pomona, today.

Thank goodness they are using the return road and not the dragstrip. Other than that, I hope the event is a success.

I don't know....are you sure the track wasn't prepped by the regular NHRA guys? Ask a Pro Stock team- they'll agree!

It looks like the top end bleachers have been removed. I wonder if a sound day had to be used for that event.

Is that an old style Christmas tree?

And even more curious, is that grandstand at 1100' open to spectators?? ;)

(You know, the one that the FAA supposedly closed....)

I remember around 2003-04 they ran the Supercross the same weekend as the Winternatl's, I was seeing all these 20 something hotties walkin around Pomona wearing "Dirt girl" shirts! I finally stopped one and asked them about it is how I found out! Didn't think the Motorcross crowd had any interest in Drag racing...

There is a fair amount of crossover between the two types of racing. Last year it was run as an exhibition somewhere in the desert in Mexico. This year, they created two classes and put it in a best of three head to head runs, tournament bracket format. By all accounts I've read, it was a rousing success, and has generated considerable buzz amongst the MX fans and industry. I hope NHRA got a chance to do some marketing for the upcoming Finals during this event. It was, however, a Red Bull event, so they may have had it locked down quite a bit.
