Minutes of the October 5th, 2010 GSTA meeting.
Meeting was called to order by President Rosemary Bonnett at 7:09 PM at Broadway Pizza.
Roll Call: Beater Boys, Cogs, Golden Rods, Ignitors, Scavengers, Spartans, Spinners, Street Customs, Strokers, 3-2’s, Twin City Knights, and Universals. Absent were the Flywheelers, Quads and Renegades.
Rosemary read several thank you letters to GSTA; one from Kathy Kieffer and one from the Paul Bath family for the memorials sent by GSTA. Roger Grady sent a thank you for having the opportunity to work on and drive the GSTA dragster.
Lino Lakes Race Track Presentation: Jim Farnum and Tom Hoover were present to make a presentation on the proposed Lino Lakes motorsports facility from International Motorsports Entertainment Development Company, IMEDC. Jim gave us a nice overview of the plans they have in the works. They have a contract for 500 acres in Lino Lakes. The ¼ mile dragstrip, 4000’ total length, is planned to run along the east side of Interstate 35 running S-N from about 170th. The plans are to have 30,000 seats around a semi enclosed track. Initial construction would seat about 15,000 and increase over time. The oval track would be built to accommodate about 80,000 spectators. They would like to incorporate space for Minnesota car clubs to use at the facility.
They have passed the EDAC review and are set to meet with the Lino Lakes City Council next. If they get a green light then they move on to an EIS, which can take up to a year. Mortenson, one of the companies that was contacted for the construction of the facility, gave a completion estimate of 29 months after the EIS.
What can GSTA members do to help make this happen? Make sure you have filled out the Lino Lakes survey at Lino Lakes Outdoor Entertainment Complex Survey . This is a survey from the city, not Jim.
