Just got back from the ceremony in Concord a few minutes ago, It was actually quite nice. The state of New Hampshire had some speakers that were involved in the process of seeing this event brought to fruitation.
NHRA had Tom Compton, (without the imaginary Bentley};)
Tom did a very good speaking job.
The drag racers had Terry McMillin and his dragster, Great job Terry, you are indeed a funny man!!
Joe Lombardo was there to speak for New England Dragway, Good job Joe.
All in all it was very brief, All speakers were right to the point, perfect weather and above all great news for us New England fans!

PS, All funds are in place for completition of all projects left to do and not one dime came from NHRA.:D

Would have been awesome for Terry to do a Start up right there in Downtown!

You don't think $125 per is high? I can get $50-60 everywhere else, Indy, Pomona, Houston, Chicago, Seattle!

My experience has been north east motel costs are expensive compared to the rest of the country. I live in New England, though, so I generally don't have need for a hotel, so I don't have a feel for the current rates in the area. When my parents last visited, they had to pay around $100/night (in south eastern MA).

When I went to Englishtown last year, booking a room several months in advance, I had to pay over $100/night.

I think it is the nature of this area of the country.

From what was said at the press conference in Concord today, funding came from First Colebrook Bank thru the New Hampshire Division of Economic Development.

Many States have programs to help these type events or proprties in order ot increase state tax income from the tourist trade.... NC does it alot.... thats how the Trucks came back to Rockingham Speedway.... some thing like $800k ot help pay for the safer barriers...

The state of Texas is on the hook for $250 million for the Formula1 race in Austin over the next 10 years ... that's right ... $25 million per year.

They will get some of that back from me though :)

Only problem with that plan is NH has no sales tax! :D

I know people in Austin, they say the traffic there is worse then Dallas or Houston! I bet come F1 time, it's gonna be an Abortion getting around that place!

You want cheap motels for Gainesville, you had better go to Ocala 50 miles from the track!

We paid $119. per night this year and felt it was reasonable.

One thing for you to remember: The Gatornationals is the biggest annual event the city of Gainesville has. It brings in more money than ALL the Gator home football games COMBINED!

I've stayed at the hotel adjacent the Garlits museum for a lot less, but hate the long trip to the track & prefer to be in the Archer Rd hotel area, where the action is.

Btw: My source for the Gators info is the Gainesville C of C.

Remember NHRA dropped a race from 24 to 23 a couple of years ago. Or am I mistaken and we're back to 24 and now it will be 25? At any rate, I hope NHRA fixes the schedule so the guys aren't going back & forth across the country every week. That's really hard on the teams.

Speaking of the old Canada race at Sanair, the boys would have a hard time going across the border, and then trying to get back into the U.S. Plus, if you needed help from anyone in Quebec, they would only speak French just to confuse the issue. Most of the guys hated that race and were really glad when it went away.
