Berzerko Bob was on classicfunnycarboard several weeks ago bragging about a station that accidentally set the price for .32 He said he went to a bar and told all his buddies, that they were buying him beers for getting them the cheap gas. I said I would have gone in and told the station. I believe that one went a day or two before the owner found out.

You never know. It might be someone who knows how to rig the pump, too. A lot of diesel fuel islands have steel bars padlocked around their pumps because some guys know how to reset them.

I filled up for 3.89 (3.85 my cost--volume discount through the company I'm leased to) on my way in this week. I heard a driver the other week say it was over $5 a gallon in either Washington state or Oregon.

I took one of my brother's trucks to fill up the other day (1-ton Cummins dodge) and with the spare tank, I had to run his card 4 times and still didn't get it filled up, but the credit card company shut down his card before I could get it filled up. 4 charges of 75 bucks at the same pump in 30 minutes was bound to be suspicious, so they called him up and asked him about it, but I'd already left the gas station before they cleared it.

The way gas prices are, I'm surprised the pumps haven't raised their limits on credit cards.

That's set at the pump, Jenn
If you take the card in to the counter person then the $75 shut off will be over ridden. Found one station that allowed you to authorize your own limit at the pump last summer. I think it was a J or Petro.

I'm surprised I haven't heard stories of old Holley blue pumps being mounted on trucks yet, too. Drivers who park their trucks at remote locations for weekends home used to come back to empty tanks years ago.

IMO it is not that bad of price for fuel...Other products/companies make alot more cash on the margin than the oil companies and no one is complaining about their profits...People need to change their priorities if .50 a gallon hike is hurting their pocket books...And if a lousy .50 cents is putting you over the edge then some were already running their budgets slim and need to correct...simple. This situation is not going to become better so do some better planning and adjust for the rest of your life..

I don't think I even thought of going inside, or if I did think about it, I may've figured they might not let me use the card at all since it wasn't my card.

I had filled up at a Love's gas station which I had assumed would have had a higher limit considering it was still a truck stop.

I bought a locking gas cap for my mom's trooper after somebody siphoned gas out of it. It was already one of those doors that you had to open from the inside but somebody pried it open and stole her gas.

I bought locking gas caps for my car last year... I figured that once everything became pay at the pump or go inside instead of pump & pay that it was time.

Might be right on the card inside, but how many times do you get asked for ID when using one. At my shop I ID anyone I don't know. And some I do know.:D

The pay at pump limit is to protect the station against an unauthorized transaction of a high $ amount. No one at the pump to do an ID check
and no signature.

I have only been able to get two swipes at the pump, then it gets locked.
And when we travel to a race, 40 gal in the truck and 80 aux in the trailer,
can't get filled without going in.

Once in OR, where they have pump attendants, I swiped the card got $50 then it shut off. I swiped again and the girl attendant saw me pumping and ran over and shut off the pump before I got any more in, that locked my card, I was pissed. What most people don't know in Oregon, if you get gas they have to pump, if it's diesel, or gas at the RV island, you can pump your own. Guess they don't teach their attendants that part of the law.

Someone better donate me a load of overcoats so I can haul em to hell cuz, I'm agreeing with Terry on something! :D

Like I asked in the general chat section, how many people pay $20 a gallon or more for drinks in a restaurant, while complaining about the $3 a gallon gas they burned to get there? How much do people pay per gallon of WATER? The credit card companies aren't exactly going broke, either.

It's like when Shirley and I were discussing a $1,300 a month, 30 year mortgage versus a $1,600 a month, 15 year one. I said "If we're so close to the edge that we can't afford 1600, then we can't afford 1300. If we can afford 1300, we can afford 1600." I don't wanna be late on payments cuz I made a dime less last month.

I still say it's supply and demand and free market forces. IMO, the oil companies don't WANT the price to be $20 a gallon because, people WOULD be walking/riding bicycles, etc to work. I think they want it to be whatever you'll pay while still grumbling. Then, they've done their job.

It did it for me. Every week when I come down I-81 from delivering cabinets in the northeast, as soon as I pass Roanoke, VA, I'm using a tractor-trailer for personal transportation to go home for the weekend. It wasn't that long ago that the cost for that 300 mile round trip home was $100 in fuel. Now it's $150, which is more than I'll pay to be home for a day (two days but, not one). Now I bought a $600, 1980s 4-door GM V-6 Genericmobile. Looks awful. Runs like a top. Will do the trip for under $50. People who probably make less then me look at me like I'm on my way to pick up a welfare check and food stamps! :D

You know those little 12oz bottles of water we all buy when we stop to get gas? At $1.39 each, that works out to be over $14 per gallon....For WATER!!!

My Grandfather would be kicking the lid off of his casket if he knew that!

My brother has one of those credit cards that earn him points toward plane tickets so he prefers if I use his card to buy stuff when he sends me to get it, but I also get cash back on my credit card so it doesn't matter to me how I pay for it. Some people will ask me for my ID and notice that the first names don't match and either deny me or ask if it's my husband and sometimes they'll still deny me. So I just whip out my discover card and pay for it myself.

My mom would love to live in Oregon, she hates to pump gas. There isn't anywhere close by that does full service so we have to make sure her car always has gas. If momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy...

New Jersey's like that but, they're funny. If you buy diesel at the more modern, major truckstops (Pilot, Petro, Flying J, etc), you'll pump it yourself. If you buy gas anywhere in the state or diesel at their old fuel stops, there's always an attendant.

The first time Shirley and I went out on a date ( she's from Jersey cuz, I can't do ANYTHING the easy way! :D ) she pulled up to a full service pump. I said " What's this? You trying to impress me? :D " Five dollars worth of full service gas. That's when she told me it was illegal to pump your own gas there.
