O’FALLON, MO (Aug. 4, 2009) — National Guard American Drag Racing League (ADRL) Executive Vice President of Competition Bert Corzine today announced the traditional testing-qualifying-racing schedule will remain intact Aug. 7-8, for the ADRL Hardee’s® Gateway Drags II at Madison, Illinois, near St. Louis.
On-track action will begin with testing for all five professional classes at noon on Friday, continuing to 6 p.m. and followed by a mandatory driver’s meeting at 6:15 p.m. A single round of qualifying for all classes beginning at 7 p.m. will be completed Friday night. On Saturday, round two of qualifying will open at 10 a.m., with the third and final chance to qualify scheduled for 1 p.m. and elimination rounds starting at 4 p.m.
“We are well aware of an ongoing debate among National Guard ADRL teams about possibly altering our race weekend schedule to eliminate the testing portion and are considering such a move, but just don’t feel we’ve had sufficient time since the previous event less than two weeks ago to implement the necessary changes,” Corzine explained. “We’ll be seeking more input from our race teams before taking action, so for now the schedule will remain as it’s been all year.”
Corzine also stressed the run order for all official qualifying and elimination sessions will remain as it has been since the season opener in March, with Pro Jr. Dragster opening each round, followed by Extreme Pro Stock, Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme 10.5, Pro Nitrous and Pro Extreme, the quickest and fastest eighth-mile drag race cars in the world.
“Where some people get the notion that run order has changed, I don’t know,” Corzine said. “Other than adding a couple of classes the last two years, it’s been the same run order pretty much since the beginning of the National Guard ADRL five years ago. Nothing has changed and nothing is going to change in that area, so our racers certainly should know when they’re up next just by being aware of which classes are running ahead of them.”
Corzine also announced that as of the LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals V this October at Ennis, Texas, all Pro Extreme Motorcycles must carry a National Guard ADRL-approved, on-board fire suppression system. He also issued a rule clarification to allow any transmission type in Extreme Pro Stock, officially beginning Aug. 21-22, at the Summit Racing Equipment Ohio Drags III at Hebron, Ohio.
