<P> O’FALLON, MO (July 21, 2008) — If it’s 8 p.m. on Friday night at an ADRL race; it must be time for qualifying to begin. At least that’s the way it’s been for the Flowmaster American Drag Racing League presented by the National Guard almost since its inception four years ago.

That’s going to change July 25-26, however, at Maryland International Raceway (MIR) for the inaugural ADRL 1-800-GO-GUARD.com U.S. Drags. The addition to ADRL’s all-pro show of the Sonny’s Extreme Pro Stock Challenge presented by Purvis Ford has required a slight revision of the qualifying and elimination rounds schedule.

The biggest change comes in conducting two qualifying sessions on Friday evening with a third and final qualifying opportunity on Saturday before eliminations begin, instead of the other way around. That first qualifying session also has been moved forward to 6 p.m. with the second scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. Saturday’s action will begin with qualifying at noon, as it always has, but the opening round of eliminations moves ahead one hour to 3 p.m.

“Not only will this allow us more time to deal with the extra class, but it makes Friday an even bigger day for our fans,” ADRL Vice President of Competition Bubba Corzine stated. With the open test-and-tune session starting at noon on Friday, but shortened by 90 minutes to end at 4:30, it also makes Friday a more important day for ADRL race teams, Corzine added.

“Anyone who shows up on Saturday only will be taking a big chance because they’ll get just one shot at the track to qualify,” he pointed out. “With how tight qualifying for all of our classes has become, it’ll be tough to crack the field. But that’s also what makes it so exciting.”

The run order for all qualifying and elimination rounds at MIR will be: Extreme Pro Stock, Pro Extreme Motorcycle, Extreme 10.5, Pro Nitrous and Pro Extreme.

“The schedule we had before worked very well for us, but we obviously had to make accommodations for the addition of Extreme Pro Stock,” ADRL President Kenny Nowling said. “Nothing is written in stone, though. We’ll see how this schedule and run order works out and if it requires some tweaking, then that’s what we’ll do, but I really think this is going to create an even better show for ADRL fans and racers alike.”
