I'll give her a break and call it nerves.................but that was quite an answer............um...I think it was an answer.......

...oh I'm so confused........uh..what country are we in!?!?

lol

All she has to do is find a dragstrip on the map. IMHO, she'd make a darn good trophy girl. ;)

sad thing is she is everywhere now because of her brain fart on tv. She claims she went blank and really didn't even hear the question completely.

She was on the today show, yahoo has a video with her asking trivia questions. I guess now every year some girl will go blank on the show as this girl has received a ton more attention then any winner ever has.

hey maybe she can be the spokesgirl for the countdown:D she'd be able to explain why we have it;)

What I thought was funny was that even though she completely mangled her answer she still got in several liberal and PC talking points as she went. I guess the schools are doing a good job of indoctrinating the kids these days. She played the victimhood angle (shortage of maps) tossed in a comment about Iraq and South Africa, etc.

This was actually brought up in another completely unrelated thread but for those of you (guys) that missed it... Ray Ghio mentioned "bikini" and I just had to do a little searching:

Not too shabby!

Good thing she wasn't asked what country New Mexico is in.

I've had salespeople apologize left and right before because we worked a deal up to the point of shipping only for them to tell me that they do not ship to foreign destinations. They do however, compliment me on my well spoken English.

YouTube - Miss Teen USA 2007 - South Carolina UNEDITED VERSION

Incase you havent seen Miss Teen South Carolina's answering skills yet.
Now can someone interpret for me what exactly her answer was? Something about US Americans not owning a map, THE Iraq, and South Africa??????? Some people never cease to amaze me.

Here's a transcript (not that it helps):D:eek:

Judge: "Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can't locate the US
on a world map. Why do you think this is?"

Miss South Carolina: "I personally believe, that US Americans, are
unable to do so because, uh, some people out there, in our nation, don't
*have* maps, and I believe that our education -- like such as in South
Africa and, uh, the Iraq, everywhere like, such as -- and, I believe
that they should, uh, our education over *here*, in the *US*, should
*help* the US, or should help South Africa, and should help the Iraq
<<time>> and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our
future. <<host Mario Lopez pulls mic away>> For our children."

Mario Lopez: "Thank you very much, South Carolina."

Thanks Jay, SC will forever be mortified when this is mentioned from now on.

I get the funny side of this but on the reality side of it "It's very sad"! :o

Our government should be ashamed of the education system in this country!

In her defense, I've seen her on a couple of shows since then and she's really quite articulate for being just 18 years old.

However, the original question posed to her, if accurate, is a little spooky. Personally, I don't blame the government wholly for this situation... I'm of the opinion that there's plenty of blame to go around starting with the parents and ending with teacher's unions that allow crappy teachers to keep their jobs. Some people have the gift of being effective teachers and some do not, period. Those that are ineffective need to be let go.
