MillerCoors in IndyCar

So I read today that MillerCoors stepped up for a multi year sponsorship of IndyCar, yet no beer company has been involved in NHRA for years. This despite IndyCar ratings not being good. What gives?

Edit: official beer of IndyCar. I don't think this is same type of sponsorship that Mello Yellow provides the NHRA

Look every business that spends money on advertising and sponsorship looks for ROI or return on investments so if there are spending their money on IndyCar then they must see that has a better investment then drag racing for the dollars they are spending.

This is how most business work.

ROI is better in Indy Car than drag racing, plus with the 100th running of the Indy 500 coming up at the end of next month, the viewership should be really good.

I have no clue, so I'll ask: how popular is Indy Car racing? As a gearhead I'll watch all kinds of racing. But I never run into people that follow Indy Car, it's either NASCAR or drag racing. Even at a store or just out and about, it's not uncommon to see someone wearing an NHRA team or event shirt, but I can't think of the last time I saw someone wearing an Indy Car shirt. Just wondering about their fan base..

It's NHRA , NASCAR and F1 at work. But when I traveled down to Nazareth, PA (my cat's vet was down there) there are signs up through the whole neighborhood boasting when local kid Marco Andretti does well

good for them, i would think roger penske had alot to do with it.
I'm sure Penske did have a lot to do with it, they've been on his Cup car for years. I would guess that if they bought the title rights cheap enough, the deal works. They'll be represented at every event, and probably only their beverages can be sold. The Indy 500 is still a big deal to hang a name on.

The 2 guys at the top of the food chain at Verizon are huge car guys and friends with Penske. These guys are getting up there so when they retire it will be interesting where Verizon goes in the motorsports world.

anyone ever wonder why the likes of prudhomme and bernstein don't seem to be actively promoting or investing in the nhra?
i am not the greatest fan of the multiple car teams of kalitta, force and schumacher, but you have to give these three props
for investing in the nhra as they continue to do, notably force without a large successful private business to back himself up.
just sayin'........the beers wars are gone, and so are the owners.
when the force/schumacher/kalitta cars win, and win, and win again.....it gets old, and i'm not sure it's the best face for nhra,
but i get it that these owners have invested their lives in and for the nhra.
