Considering competition is the lifeblood of this sport, why do they try and eliminate it whenever possible?

There is only one reason to be exclusive with any ONE supplier.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

If anyone knows any better, please enlighten me.

Going off on a different subject for a second there is an interview on 1320tv where Austin Coil pretty much in a nitshell ses that NHRA wants spec cars where as the racers don't.

The ADRL is looking pretty appealing to this fan right now.

Perhaps some racers also

NHRA is F-ing themselves out of business.

Dose this mean the Mickey Thompson is no longer supporting Pro-Stock bike also?

Can this be partly due to keeping Goodyear in business? Goodyear Tire and Rubber is on the verge of bankruptcy and closing plants and retail dealers world wide. Since Goodyear is the only producer of tires for the Nitro classes, is this a bone to keep competition out of the fray in the other classes where there is wide support for other brands? Or is the just another example of Glendora eating too many bowls of stupid for breakfast. One will never know as there are no press releases concerning the financial crisis of motorsports. Every other form of motorsports is putting out publicity concerning their sport except for the ostiches up on the hill.

Can you say "Car of Tomorrow"?

Not to get off topic, but the car of tomorrow is a lot better to me than the old car. At least they look like they have to drive the darn thing. Of course this is coming from someone who grew up going to dirt tracks and feels that if a car isn't going straight it should be sideways every once and while (don't get me started on drifting though).

At what point will there be a "tire shortage" and the prices will skyrocket?

Prices will go up anyway , as soon as you make anybody an official supplier they raise prices because they know that the teams need their product and can't use anyone else so they will pay the prices because if they don't they can't race .

Its Economics , a mate of mine organises a hot rod event every year and the hotel/motel companies do it to him every year because they know that there are limited places to stay and people will need a place to stay so will pay or they wont show up.

Good for them! I sure as hell don't blame them after the BS NHRA pulled on them. I hope they sent letters to Compton and Dim Light telling them to stick it in their asses.

I find it hard to believe that a few hundred pro-stock tires a year would keep a company the size of Goodyear in business...

As I posted in the other thread regarding the same topic:

As for the tire issue ... let me play Devil's advocate for one second. Maybe NHRA is locking everyone else out and sticking with Goodyear because a "control" tire keeps costs down and keeps one more variable fair for everyone. When there are multiple tire manufacturers, there is more testing (which costs money) and there is more R+D on the manufacturer end (which costs money) and the technology tends to move towards the edge to stay competitive (which reduces safety). AND on Sunday interviews you won't have to hear a driver whine about tires being the reason they lost the race (like F1 until recently ... there were Michelin tracks and there were Bridgestone tracks ... drag racing would be no different ... there would be Goodyear, Hoosier and M/T tracks ... nothing any driver or crew chief or manufacturer could do about it except spend money testing and doing R+D ... and that is money the teams do not have).

I agree the NHRA could have handled the situation much differently by being upfront with tire manufacturers and writing hard rules regarding such issues, but I think in the short term NHRA got this one right in spite of themselves. Hopefully they have not ruined any future relationships that could exist with tire manufacturers other than Goodyear should Goodyear decide to leave the sport.

As has been said in this thread, a few hundred tires is not going to make or break Goodyear. And even if they do raise prices, it is still cheaper than a "tire war" and all the testing and R+D teams would have to do.

.

Why would it be like that , thats the stupidist idea ever . What people are wanting is for the teams to be able to choose what manufacturer they buy from so that they can buy what works best for them . If NHRA made it so that you had to have one brand here and one brand in another track you would have the same argument as only being aloud one brand everywhere .

Another great choice by NHRA (NOT)!!! Why not get rid of another sponser......Hell Whos next........O'Reilly?.........then we could lose Indy as well!!!.....Cant say anymore to many people know me.

As long as all the tires had to be available to everyone it wouldn't be that big of a deal (at least to the teams with more $) as they could choose what tire to run.

What he meant was that there was normally one of the brands that had a large performance advantage and the teams that ran the other tire didn't have a chance. The way the tire manufacturers were with their technology you couldn't choose. You had a contract with one manufacturer and had to run that tire.

I was told by a person in the know that Goodyear came to the NHRA and pretty much said that if they were not the exclusive tire in PS that they would pull out of the Nitro Classes.

The NHRA pretty much got on their knees at that point.
